What Is SEO?

Internet Marketing ServicesSEO or Search Engine Optimization “is the practice of manipulating aspects of a Web site to improve its ranking in search engines. Various approaches are taken to achieve that goal, such as submitting the Web site to directory services, and addressing Web site architecture and content.” according to Whatis.com.

Another definition from SEOmoz, SEO is the active practice of optimizing a web site by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic the site receives from search engines. Firms that practice SEO can vary; some have a highly specialized focus, while others take a more broad and general approach. Optimizing a web site for search engines can require looking at so many unique elements that many practitioners of SEO (SEOs) consider themselves to be in the broad field of website optimization (since so many of those elements intertwine).

SEO is often considered the more technical part of Web marketing because SEO does help in the promotion of sites and at the same time it requires some technical knowledge at least familiarity with basic HTML. Your site can also be included in paid search results but the idea behind the SEO techniques is to get top placement because your site is relevant to a particular search term, not because you pay.
